Semantic Modeling, Development and Evaluation for the Resistance Spot Welding Industry

The ongoing industrial revolution termed Industry 4.0 (I4.0) has borne witness to a series of profound changes towards increasing smart automation, particularly in the sectors automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, etc. Automatic welding, widely applied manufacturing process these domains, is not an exception changes. One type automatic Resistance Spot Welding (RSW), lies center this work. Large volumes and varieties RSW data are being generated, thanks technologies behind I4.0. To address associated challenges, ontologies essential various aspects: integrating sources, enhancing interoperability, unifying knowledge However, there have been limited studies around semantic modelling Welding: Existing overlooked some crucial concepts, such as operation-centric view, welding software, electrodes, which for monitoring sensor measurements well status machine components (e.g., electrode wear). Additionally, current publicly available (to best our knowledge), therefore cannot be accessed by other users. Such lack availability often requires that users build their own from scratch. In paper, we propose ontology (RSWO) a formalize domain. It combines three sources knowledge: extensive discussions with Bosch experts; reusing terminologies following ISO-14327 ISO-14373 standards; existing established ontologies. We evaluated RSWO on real-world quality at Germany, using Competency Questions, FAIR principles, OOPS!, OntoMetrics.
